I’m here to write a two-page literature on “The Iroquois Creation Story” by

David Cusick . David Cusick was the first Native American to record on his

own the founding myths of his native people . That is one of the reasons his article was

chosen over other version of the creation story of the Iroquois nation . Next, I write

about the myth that will call Cusick creation story but he calls his own work history of

his people .

The Iroquois Creation Story is a story about two brothers one had a good mind

and the other had a bad mind. While the good brother was making the earth a nice place

with good creations such as waters filled with fish, lots of different animals, and animals

that can inhabit the forest. Then, the brother with the good mind made the Indians with

trees growing with fruit on them making their lives like a paradise. While the good mind

was making the universe the bad mind started to make things that can hurt man but the

good fixed it back up as it use to . The bad mind tried to make man but end up making

apes then became envious of his brother for doing something he himself can’ t do.

The bad mind offered a challenge to his brother the good mind that who ever gains

victory in the challenge should govern the universe; and make the appointed day of the

contest. The good accepted the challenge. They both cam e on the day the challenge was

set and for two day tearing up trees and mountains but then the good mind gained

victory over his brother by using a deer’s antlers .The good mind crushed his brother into

the earth and the last words of the bad mind were he would have equal control over souls

after their death. The bad mind sinks down to forever doom and became the Evil Spirit .

After the fight the Good mind repaired the earth, visited the people, and retired on the

earth.

The summary of the creation story is very similar to the story when God kick out

Lucifer from but with a few differences . Lucifer was the worshiper of God angel

But his vanity cloud his mind and wanted to be over God and got an army of angels to

rebel against God . As always-good verses evil wins so Lucifer was kicked of heaven

with all the other angels who followed him was sent to the earth . Now Lucifer got a

new name for him the devil. Now the devil tries to kill people before the can ask God to

them so they can be with him for all eternity.

There was a lot of comparisons in the before creation story of Lucifer to the

Creation Story of the Iroquois . The first comparison was made the bad mind was jealous

of the good mind like how Lucifer was Jealous of how God get to be number one and

he can’t . The Second comparison is that the God beat the devil just like the good mind

defeated the bad mind when they both had fought . The third comparison I’ve found

was that the bad mind was sent to the bottom of the earth like when Lucifer was sent

when he lost and was able to take control of souls when death come a knocking to man.

The final caparison of the two stories is the name change of the two characters of

Lucifer to the Devil and the evil mind into the Evil Spirit . Now to my conclusion

paragraph .

In the two summaries of stories had a lot of thing in common . To myself that is

just the coolest thing to see how it is a small world after all in some cases. Now I

wonder what else I have in common with the world. I will love to know what else I have

in common with different ethic backgrounds I t really does excite me a lot .
