PHIllis

Phillis Wheatly was born as in Africa and was bought to Boston in 1761. Was

bought by John Wheatly to be company for his wife, Susannah Wheatly. Phillis Wheatly

started to learn how to read and write . Then wrote a poem about George Whitefield, an

preacher during the first Great Awakening , made her famous . Phillis went to England to

get some help to get he first book some support from Benjamin Franklin. Couldn’t stay

to see her book to get publish because Susannah Wheatly was dying . Susannah died in

1774 and later her husband in 1778 the same year Phillis Wheatly got married to John

Peters . In 1784, Philly died next to her third child (other two children already died from

causalities ) and was buried with her child .

Five years after Phillis Wheatly death letters and poems were found and to some

speculation there is more to come for the late Phillis Wheatly . According to the poems

and letters found Phillis Wheatly wrote about politics also, like her love with George

Washington and other political queries. What got my attention the most when she got

over whelm with wanting of freedom . Being a slave gave herself a reason to love the

idea of freedom especially to time the American Revolution was up during the time .

According to letters in the article the “sons of liberty “ shouted out for freedom which

made she believe that God implanted us all with want to live freely . Which to me is a

amazing philosophy to live by when you have been oppressed by for a while .

Phillis Wheatly poem “ On Being brought From Africa to America “ it is

stated in the article that slavery is like a legal stealing someone from away from there

whi9ch is the feeling behind the poem . That it is unfair to be taken when not asked .

Only someone of an evil mind can do this to a person . In the letter and the poem to

George Washington Phillis give high praise to him because of his popular stature .

It also make Washington an s a high noble in a sense house Phillis do it .

Phillis Wheatly had to go through with her family dying on but she worked

though it as long as she was able do . She is an inspiration o woman to give up on

life when it gives you lemons . That is what Phillis Wheatly means to me. Whit hope of

finding more of her items
